Discover the faces of articule’s 2016-17 programming: Season launch in the presence of the artists

In partnership with the Journées de la culture, articule is hosting an interactive 5 à 7 where the artists of the 2016-17 programming have been invited to present artefacts, poems, videos, and any other curious objects that they cherish in order to shed new light on their art practices.

For its 2016-17 programming year, articule asked artists the deceptively simple question: “what are you currently working on?” The answers revealed a desire to overthrow the white cube and to dissolve the boundary between the outside world and the interior space. Jordan Loeppky-Kolesnik builds a brunch restaurant destroyed by nature. Karen Tam invites us to navigate a Chinese souvenir shop. We move into a living room to see Eduardo Velazquez’s photographic and video works. We wander into a garden amidst works by Kelly Andres, Maude Bernier Chabot, Véronique Chagnon-Côté and Maude Deslauriers. We converse with Winnie Ho, lying down in a park, under a tree. We intrude on an intimate conversation with k.g. guttman and we sit down to eat for a performance by Myung-Sun Kim.

articule is renewing collaborations with SAVAC (South Asian Visual Arts Centre) as part of a Settlers of Catan game night organized by Golboo Amani; with Black Radical Imagination which is presenting a new series of shorts; and with the HTMlles Festival, where Ambivalently Yours, Sophia Borowska, Zinnia Naqvi and Zeesy Powers are presenting works that address the timely notion of confidentiality. This season also features a new collaboration with the Biennale de Montréal, with the presentation of work by Cameroonian artist Em’kal Eyongakpa.

Given that our aesthetic and philosophical preferences are the landmarks of our perception, experiences and reinterpretation of our environment, we wanted to have a better sense of what inspires the artists of the new season. As part of this 5 à 7, we invite you to follow artists Karen Tam, Ambivalently Yours, Sophia Borowska, Zinnia Naqvi, Véronique Chagnon-Côté, Maude Deslauriers, and k.g. guttman, along a journey through the ideal universes that have shaped and influenced their practices.

Come celebrate with us on Friday, September 30, 2016, from 5 to 7 PM for a convivial evening of exchanges and open discussions with the artists! Presentations will start at 5:30 PM.
