Dear local painter, sculptor, printmaker, yarn bomber, mixed media mogul, animator, illustrator, performance artist and photographer...

We at CJAM — the Montreal Artists' Legal Clinic — in partnership with articule, have put together a special program designed to address the misconceptions that visual artists have that lawyers are a) boring and b) expensive.

Come to CJAM's Artists' Legal Bootcamp on April 9th to hear a free, hopefully interesting, lawyer present a 3-hour workshop addressing the copyright and corporate law questions that artists ask us every day including:
- I just sold a painting, do I retain any rights to it?
- I use collages of other people's photographs in my mixed media works, is that okay?
- My drawing was used in an ad without my permission, now what?
- At what point does my art practice become a business?

Did we mention that it's free? It is. Free, that is. There will still be lawyers though, so, maybe a little boring.

Though the presentation will be given in French our presenters are bilingual and will be more than happy to respond to questions in English.

Guillaume Lavoie Ste-Marie’s currently works at a Montreal law firm specialized in intellectual property matters. His practice focusses on litigation in the fields of copyright, trademarks, patents and industrial designs. Born and raised in Montreal, he has been following the city's art scene since his teenage years. Guillaume started volunteering at CJAM after his first year in law school, has been managing the CJAM Legal Info Nights since January 2011, and became a member of the Board of Directors in the spring of 2012.
