Iyan + Why'z Panthera - Musical performance
“Our set is entitled Once Upon Today. This title relies on the idea that the past informs our present, as human beings but also as a society. We are exploring the ways in which what we have experienced defines who we are today. The things we had or didn’t have in the past, the things we went through also inform what we dream of or wish for today. We are going to explore this concept through several texts written in Creole and Arabic. Some of them will be accompanied by drums.”
8-10pm
Mere Phantoms, Interactive shadow installation
+ music by IRIDESCENCE
Drawing on traditions of shadow theatre, early cinema and papercutting, mere phantoms (Maya Ersan and Jaimie Robson) create interactive installations and performances positioned between spectacle and experience. These works function as immersive environments that rely on audience participation and explore the possibilities of situating the audience as performer.
10-11pm

Le Mile End s’articule is an outdoor community arts festival that brings articule out of the gallery walls and into our shared streets and parks. The 2019 edition revolves around themes of memory and storytelling. Which stories do we share? Where are they told? How do stories inform our experience and understanding of a space, and what are the inventions and transformations we imagine? Given the history of Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal and the various communities that share the Mile End in particular, the festival presents creative and critical responses.
All events are free and open to all!
