MONTRÉAL MONOCHROME IV: STUDY HALL proposes an investigation into the intersection of art and pedagogy with an anti-colonial inflection. It offers a framework to explore how artistic modes of production can challenge conventional systems of education. The theme of this edition, “STUDY HALL”, signals a concern with conventional forms and spaces of education. This event brings together artists, art historians, critics, curators, philosophers and students to put forward innovative perspectives on study and knowledge production. The event asks: How can art practices redefine our understanding of knowledge production? And how can alternative ways of learning challenge preconceived notions of the work and the value of art?

Over the course of three days, STUDY HALL participants are invited to occupy articule in order to collectively build knowledges, techniques and practices through a series of workshops, art-making sessions, discussions, socials and performances.

ORGANIZERS

The Fabulous Committee’s mandate is to develop anti-oppression strategies to make the centre more inclusive and culturally diverse. This includes the artists we present through our programming as well as our internal structure (members, board, staff). The committee also organizes Montréal Monochrome, an annual event which aims to address the mis- and underrepresentation and systemic oppression of marginalized groups in Montreal’s contemporary art milieu.
