Queer Orientations: Wxmb Cxre x Queering The Map Somatic Storytelling Workshop will explore the ways in which we embody queer orientations through movement and gesture. How do we bear witness to, and empathize with, queer experience in preverbal ways? How can we simultaneously use words and storytelling to get back into the experience of our bodies? Through a series of breath, voice, movement and gesture exercises, we will explore the possibilities of experiencing story through our bodies - holding space for the new forms that emerge.

Be Heintzman Hope is a facilitation artist moving between sound and dance based in Tio’tia:ke/Montreal. In 2013, they established a breath, voice and movement practice under the name Womb Cxre. They are co-founder of the Queer Body Workers Network Tio'tia:ke/MTL and have facilitated workshops for organizations such as Sherpa Centre de Recherche, Studio 303, SBC Gallery, articule, Cinema Politica, and The Centre for Gender Advocacy. They are a 3 year artist-in residence at the MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) and have participated in Impulstanz's danceWEB scholarship program. Within their hybrid practice they have performed locally, in Vancouver, Berlin and Vienna.

Lucas LaRochelle is a multidisciplinary designer and researcher examining queerness, technology, and architecture. They are the founder of Queering The Map, a community generated counter-mapping project that archives queer moments, memories, and histories in relation to physical space. Queering The Map received an Honorary Mention for the 2018 Prix Ars Electronica, was longlisted for the Lumen Prize for Digital Art and the Kantar Information is Beautiful Awards, and is part of the Library of Congress LGBTQ+ Studies Web Archive. They have given talks, run workshops, and exhibited nationally and internationally, notably at Ars Electronica, Somerset House and SBC Gallery. Their work and writing has appeared in Accent, Échelles, Perfect Strangers and ROM, amongst other publications.

Le Mile End s’articule is an outdoor community arts festival that brings articule out of the gallery walls and into our shared streets and parks. The 2019 edition revolves around themes of memory and storytelling. Which stories do we share? Where are they told? How do stories inform our experience and understanding of a space, and what are the inventions and transformations we imagine? Given the history of Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal and the various communities that share the Mile End in particular, the festival presents creative and critical responses.
